Morocco: Teachers' union calls for strike nationwide and protest in Rabat June 2

Teachers’ union schedules nationwide strike across Morocco, and associated protest in Rabat, June 2. Localized disruptions likely.

The National Coordination of Contract Teachers of Morocco has scheduled a nationwide strike from 00:01 June 2 and scheduled an associated protest in Rabat 10:00-16:00 the same day. Participants in the protest will gather at the Ministry of National Education. Participants intend to gather to voice contractual grievances and payment disputes, ongoing for several months. Protests in other urban centers remain possible.

Police will probably deploy to monitor the protest and secure the court. Major violence is unlikely; however, the protest will likely cause localized traffic disruptions in central parts of the city. Disruptions at educational facilities are also likely June 2.
