Activists from the Indigenous Customary Negotiating Body (ICAN) and Usine du Sud movement are rallying outside the National Gendarmerie in Noumea as of the afternoon of May 6. Protesters are demanding the release of people arrested for participating in unrest around the sale of the Goro Mine in South Province. Dozens of people are participating in the demonstration.

The rally has remained peaceful, but localized transport disruptions are possible. Activists could march on nearby roads. An escalation in violence cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to disperse protesters if transport disruptions occur.
