New Zealand: Activists plan protest in Wellington May 15

Palestinian solidarity activists to protest on Cuba Mall in Wellington, New Zealand, 11:00 May 15. Increased security likely.

Warning

Event

The Wellington Palestine organization plans to hold a protest on Cuba Mall in Wellington May 15. Demonstrators will gather outside the Little India restaurant at 11:00. Participants intend to denounce Israel's eviction of Palestinian residents from the Sheikh Jarrah area of Jerusalem as well as violent suppression of protests denouncing the evictions. Attendance will likely be between dozens to a couple hundred people.

Security personnel will likely monitor the gathering. Authorities may try to break up the protest if it is especially disruptive. Minor skirmishes between protesters and police cannot be ruled out. The protest and security response may cause localized transport disruptions, especially on Dixon and Ghuznee streets. Police may divert traffic from the area.

Advice

Avoid the rally due to possible skirmishes. If violence breaks out, leave the area immediately. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near the protest site.
