Unknown assailants kidnapped six Kenyan truckers at a checkpoint in Terekeka, located approximately 50 miles (80 km) north of Juba, the morning of April 29. Representatives of Ugandan and Kenyan drivers have confirmed the incident and said that the kidnappers have asked for an SSP 15 million (USD 115,154) ransom for each individual. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
South Sudanese officials are likely to reinforce security measures along major routes and near crossing points over the near term resulting in localized transport disruptions such as roadblocks and checkpoints.
