Turkish forces reportedly shot down two homemade drones during an attempted attack against the facilities of the 8th Main Jet Base Command in Diyarbakir during the early hours of May 19. According to authorities, the incident took place at about 00:30; there were no reports of damage or injuries. As yet, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The 8th Main Jet Base Command is located at the southeastern end of Diyarbakir Airport (DIY), a facility that serves both civilian and military aviation.
Authorities will almost certainly increase security at DIY over the coming days until it becomes clear that no further attacks of a similar nature are imminent. Law enforcement agencies could launch operations in and around the city of Diyarbakir in an effort to apprehend the perpetrators. Disruptions to flight operations at DIY are possible into at least late May 19.
