Security forces are increasing operations in Sahel Region as of June 15. According to reports from the National Armed Forces (FAN), security forces neutralized at least 20 militants during operations and clashes June 7-13. In Solhan, Yalga Province, soldiers defused an improvised explosive device (IED) after searching the town. Security forces also killed 10 suspected terrorists during operations around Solhan. Militants ambushed another military patrol near Gorguel, Souem Province, June 10, wounding three soldiers. The soldiers repelled the attack, killing around 15 militants and seizing weapons, motorcycles, ammunition, and other equipment. Gunmen ambushed a military detachment traveling to Sanare, Bam Province, killing seven security personnel and wounding four others, June 11.
Increased military operations and security measures, such as checkpoints and searches, will almost certainly continue in the region over the coming days and weeks. Militant attacks targeting security forces or civilians are also likely to continue. Transportation disruptions, including road closures or blockades, are possible near the sites of military operations or militant attacks.

The FAN is increasing operations in the northern Sahel Region following the June 4 attack on Solhan that left around 160 people dead. The raid underscores the severe insecurity and risk of militant attacks across northern Burkina Faso. Islamist militants operating in the tri-border area (Niger, Mali, and Burkina Faso) have perpetrated similar assaults, and authorities usually suspect their involvement in attacks.
