Critical

Event

As of June 2, the COVID-19 restrictions in force in Comoros remain largely unchanged by comparison with those that were in effect during late April. Under current directives, a nightly curfew remains in force between 21:30 and the first morning prayer at approximately 05:00. Mosques are allowed to operate. Authorities continue to require residents to wear protective facemasks and strictly adhere to social distancing mandates in all public places, including vehicles, taxis, shops, and private and public establishments. Additionally, markets must close at 16:00 daily. Some academic activity has resumed. Beaches remain closed. All weddings and public gatherings are prohibited.

Domestic flights have resumed; travelers to Moheli are no longer required to provide a negative COVID-19 test but will be screened on arrival in Moheli. With regard to public transport, buses are restricted to carrying no more than 10 persons each, and taxis no more than four.

Minimal international flights are operating and sea borders are closed. Incoming international travelers must present a negative result from a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test taken no more than 72 hours before their departure for Comoros. Health authorities perform temperature checks on all arriving passengers at airports; those exhibiting a temperature of over 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) are required to take an additional PCR test. It remains unclear what requirements authorities may impose on persons who test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival; however, such measures will likely include quarantine at a government-designated facility until the individual tests negative for the virus. Persons leaving Comoros must also test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to their departure, regardless of their ultimate destination.

A visibly increased security presence is likely throughout Comoros. Authorities are likely to amend and implement new restrictions and measures at short notice.
