Czech Republic: Anti-government activists to demonstrate in Prague June 20

Activists to demonstrate in Wenceslas Square, Prague, Czech Republic from 16:00 June 20; increased security, localized disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Anti-government activists led by the "A Million Moments for Democracy" (Milion Chvilek pro Democracii) movement plan to lead a demonstration in Prague June 20. Participants will gather at Wenceslas Square at 16:00; attendance will likely be in the thousands.

Authorities will deploy additional police to monitor the demonstration. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in the protest area. Public transport could experience greater than usual congestion, including at Prague Main Station, as activists travel to attend the demonstration. Current COVID-19 measures in the Czech Republic include restrictions on public gatherings; police may attempt to disperse activists deemed to be breaching these restrictions and could arrest unruly participants. Isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.

Advice

Avoid the protests as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for disruptions and allow extra time for travel in the protest area the evening of June 20.
