French Polynesia: Authorities ease COVID-19 restrictions, entry requirements as of June 24 /update 14

French Polynesia eases COVID-19 controls as of June 24. Entry, quarantine requirements reduced for some travelers.

Critical

Event

Authorities have reduced COVID-19 restrictions as of June 24. Officials have ended curfew hours in Tahiti and Moorea. The government has also eased facemask requirements in most outdoor public areas. However, the facemask mandate remains in place when physical distancing is impossible, on public transport, near shopping centers and markets, places of worship, and around schools. Officials now permit public gatherings of up to 25 people, though schools and businesses are exempt.

The government permits most nonessential businesses and activities to operate with social distancing protocols in place. Restaurants can host tables of up to six people. Seated events can occur at 50-percent capacity, up to 800 people for most establishments and 1,000 people for sporting events. Funerals remain limited to 50 people.

International Travel Restrictions
The government continues to ban entry for most foreign nationals. However, authorities have eased entry requirements for travelers from several countries, including most of the EU, Australia, South Korea, Japan, Israel, Lebanon, New Zealand, Singapore, the US, and Canada. Travelers who have been exclusively in these "green" locations for 15 days can visit the territory for any reason. Officials restrict travel from all other locations to essential reasons, such as critical personal or professional needs or medical emergencies. The government requires supporting documentation before approving boarding requests for flights.

All approved travelers must apply for an Electronic Travel Information System health registration receipt. Permitted passengers over the age of 11 must provide a negative result from a PCR COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure for French Polynesia. Authorities will conduct a COVID-19 antigen test for all arrivals. Fully vaccinated passengers from green locations do not have to quarantine. Other inbound passengers must quarantine for 10 days at government-designated facilities at their own expense. However, the government will permit some travelers to self-quarantine; individuals must request self-quarantine more than 72 hours before departure. Quarantined travelers and children of vaccinated adults must undergo COVID-19 testing on days four and eight.

Advice

Follow all official orders. Obtain permission before traveling during curfew hours. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny, delays, and quarantine.
