Authorities in New Zealand extend suspension of quarantine-free travel from Victoria, Australia, until at least 19:59 June 10.

Warning

Event

Officials in New Zealand have extended their suspension of quarantine-free travel from Victoria, Australia, through at least 19:59 June 10 amid ongoing community COVID-19 activity in Melbourne and other areas. Individuals who have visited Victoria from 19:59 May 25 cannot enter New Zealand. Additionally, people who visited designated locations of interest in Victoria at specific times cannot travel to New Zealand for two weeks from the date of exposure.

However, officials will permit some people that visited Victoria May 20-25 but are now in other Australian states to return to New Zealand without quarantine. The government will also allow some quarantine-free flights from Melbourne starting June 9. The so-called green flight options are only available for returning citizens, permanent residents, Australians resident in New Zealand, critical workers, and travelers with humanitarian exemptions. Eligible travelers must take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure.

Officials have canceled most flights between New Zealand and Melbourne (MEL), but some flights from Auckland (AKL) to Victoria may continue. Further extensions of the controls and flight disruptions are possible.

Advice

Consider deferring travel plans and check with travel providers for rebooking options if scheduled to arrive in New Zealand through at least June 10. Follow all official instructions.
