New Zealand extends ban on quarantine-free travel from Australia until 23:59 July 4. Flights from several states to resume from July 5.

Critical

Event

Officials in New Zealand have extended the suspension of all quarantine-free travel from Australia until at least 23:59 July 4 due to COVID-19 activity in that country. Arrivals in New Zealand must undergo quarantine for 14 days at a government-designated facility. The government has requested that people already in the country with a travel history to Australia since June 21 monitor their health; however, officials do not require them to self-quarantine.

Authorities plan to resume quarantine-free travel from the Australian Capital Territory, South Australia, Tasmania, and Victoria from July 5. However, officials will require travelers to take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours of departure. Individuals who have visited the Northern Territory, Queensland, and Western Australia since 22:30 NZT June 26 or New South Wales after 23:59 NZT June 22 cannot board flights. Authorities could alter arrangements at short notice.

Although flights from New Zealand to Australia can operate, flight cancellations between New Zealand and Australia are likely to continue due to decreased demand.

Advice

Consider delaying travel and check with travel providers for rebooking options if impacted by the quarantine exemption suspension. Follow all official instructions.
