The Plenary Syndicates for Workers - National Convention of Workers (Plenario Intersindical de Trabajadores - Convencion Nacional de Trabajadores, PIT-CNT) has called for a nationwide general strike, June 17, in response to various socio-economic issues, including inequality and low wages. Bank workers affiliated with the AEBU union plan to stop work, June 17. Officials working at ports of entry are also likely to join the action, and associated processing disruptions may occur.

The strike action is likely to be well-observed. Both private and public sector disruptions are likely. In the health service, emergency care will be provided; however, disruptions to nonemergency services may occur. Public transportation disruptions are possible.

Striking workers may hold demonstrations coinciding with the labor action. These are most likely in Montevideo and near major government buildings. Officials will almost certainly deploy to monitor any related gatherings. Confrontations between protesters and the security forces are possible.
