Cyprus: US Embassy warns of protests in Nicosia, July 24-25

The US Embassy has warned of planned protests in Nicosia, July 24 and 25. On July 24, protesters plan to gather outside the Presidential Palace from 18:00 as part of a worldwide campaign to denounce official measures arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. On the following day, a related demonstration is scheduled from 18:00 outside the Ministry of Justice on Athalassas Avenue.

The protests are likely to be well attended. Police will almost certainly monitor any protests and could try to break up rallies that are especially large or disruptive. While clashes are unlikely, isolated skirmishes are possible. Protesters could attempt to march along or block roads, causing localized transport disruptions.
