Hungary: Authorities maintaining COVID-19 restrictions as of July 26 /update 29
Hungary maintaining COVID-19 measures as of July 26; international entry and limited domestic restrictions remain in effect.
Event
Authorities in Hungary are maintaining measures imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19 as of July 26. Officials previously lifted capacity limits and social distancing mandates in public spaces and removed the requirement to wear facemasks in most public spaces. The limit on private gatherings is 100; up to 400 people may attend a wedding. There are no longer any limits on funeral attendance.
Restrictions remain in force for indoor events and outdoor events featuring more than 500 attendees. Only holders of a "certificate of protection" may attend such an event. Hungarian authorities issue certificates of protection to individuals who have either been vaccinated against or recovered from COVID-19. Restrictions are less stringent for individuals with certificates of protection; such persons may visit indoor cultural, leisure, and fitness facilities, and be seated at indoor areas of catering establishments.
International Entry Restrictions
Entry is permitted for travelers in possession of an immunity certificate accepted by Hungarian authorities which include those issued by Hungary, EU Digital COVID Certificates, and certificates issued by authorities in Albania, Bahrain, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Mongolia, Montenegro, Morocco, North Macedonia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine, and from July 27, Russia. Additionally, there are no restrictions on entry across the land borders with Austria, Croatia, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, and Slovenia.
Generally, only Hungarian citizens and residents not meeting these requirements will be permitted to enter the country; such travelers must quarantine for 10 days on arrival, incoming travelers who do not have a residential address in Hungary must quarantine at a government-designated facility. Travelers may leave quarantine early if two negative COVID-19 tests are presented in the first five days. Exceptions are in place for business travelers, transport workers, and individuals in transit.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
