New Zealand: Transport delays likely in Auckland through midday July 2 due to road accidents and limited capacity on trains

Transport delays likely in Auckland, New Zealand, through midday July 2 due to road accidents and limited capacity on trains.

Informational

Event

Reduced commuter train capacity and road accidents are likely to cause lingering transport delays in Auckland through at least midday July 2. Auckland Transport has reduced capacity on many commuter trains by half due to unspecified technical issues. Additionally, traffic accidents temporarily blocked several lanes along parts of the Northwestern Motorway (SH 16) early July 2; although authorities have since cleared the lanes, residual disruptions are possible over the coming hours.

Heightened demand for bus services, as well as taxi and ride-hailing services, is likely over the coming hours. Increased traffic congestion is also likely, as some commuters will probably use private vehicles.

Advice

Confirm rail schedules. Plan for increased congestion on roadways and alternative transport. Allow extra time to reach destinations.
