A strike by medical workers, farmers, taxi, and bus unions, is underway in Cusco Region as of early July 21. Participants launched the action July 20 to protest various socioeconomic issues. The US Embassy in Lima has warned the strike will likely impact ground transport services; authorities have suspended rail services to Machu Picchu. Participants blocked primary routes in and out of the region, as well as some routes into Cusco city July 20. Similar road blockades are likely July 21.

Police will likely deploy to monitor any protests or blockades that occur July 21. Although there were no reports of widespread violence July 20, there is a threat of violence, especially if police attempt to disperse those blocking roads. Transport and commercial disruptions are likely in areas affected by the protests and strike.
