Authorities have reportedly lost contact with an AN-26 aircraft with around 29 people aboard - 23 passengers and 6 crew members - over the Kamchatka Peninsula in far eastern Russia July 6. Updated reports indicate the aircraft departed Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky Airport (PKC) and was en route to Palana; officials reportedly lost contact with the plane during its landing approach. Incoming reports suggest the aircraft was operated by Kamchatka Aviation Enterprise. Emergency crews have deployed helicopters to search for the aircraft.
