The Association of Teachers of Uruguay has called for a 24-hour strike in Montevideo, Aug. 2. The action has been called to denounce an alleged assault on a teacher by a parent. The incident occurred in the Punta de Rieles area.

In addition to disruptions to school activity, teachers may hold protests. These could occur near government buildings in Montevideo or near the affected school in Punta de Rieles. Should protests occur, localized ground travel disruptions are likely. Security forces will likely deploy to any protests that materialize.
