Officials have tightened quarantine requirements for travelers entering Hanoi City from 19 cities and provinces from July 22 due to increased COVID-19 activity. The affected areas include An Giang, Bac Lieu, Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Ben Tre, Binh Duong, Binh Phuoc, Ca Mau, Dong Nai, Dong Thap, Hau Giang, Kien Giang, Long An, Soc Trang, Tay Ninh, Tien Giang, Tra Vinh, and Vinh Long provinces; as well as Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh cities. Individuals traveling to Hanoi from these locations must provide a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours and quarantine at a designated facility for 14 days. Authorities have reduced the number of daily flights between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh to two from July 22. Flights from Can Tho and Phu Quoc Island to Hanoi will remain suspended until further notice.
COVID-19 restrictions on nonessential activity and movement in Hanoi City remain in effect until further notice. Authorities ban all nonessential commercial services from operating. Public transport services must operate at 50-percent seating capacity and may not travel between high-risk provinces. Residents will be allowed to only leave home for essential reasons. Officials prohibit gatherings of more than five people outside businesses, schools, and hospitals. Authorities have deployed checkpoints at major roads and bus stations across Hanoi to enforce health protocols on individuals leaving or entering the city. Hanoi's Noi Bai International Airport is providing rapid COVID-19 test services for passengers.
Further extensions are possible, depending on COVID-19 activity. Officials may enact new measures or expand the curbs if any additional outbreaks occur in the coming weeks. Heightened security and business disruptions are likely to continue.
