Angola: Activists plan protest in Luanda Aug. 14

Activists plan to march from Santa Ana cemetery to Largo Primeiro de Maio in Luanda, Angola, from 11:00 Aug. 14. Avoid protest.

Warning

Event

Political activists plan to hold a march in Luanda Aug. 14. Participants are scheduled to gather at 11:00 at the Santa Ana cemetery and later march to the Largo Primeiro de Maio. The demonstration is scheduled to call for a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Cabinda.

Security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor all protests. While organizers have called for the demonstrations to remain peaceful, clashes between activists and security forces cannot be ruled out, particularly if no protest permission has been obtained. Police have forcibly dispersed demonstrations across Angola in the past. Localized road travel disruptions near the march route are likely.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a precaution. Plan for localized transportation disruptions and allow additional time to reach destinations.
