Cameroon: COVID-19-related restrictions remain largely unchanged as of Aug. 27 /update 16
Cameroon leaves COVID-19-related controls mostly unchanged as of Aug. 27. Limited international flights operating.
Event
As of Aug. 27, Cameroonian authorities are maintaining most existing COVID-19-related restrictions.
International Restrictions
Land and sea borders remain closed to international travel. However, freight transport via land and sea routes is likely to continue but is subject to increased screening. Air borders also remain largely closed, but authorities have permitted several flights via Douala International Airport (DLA) and Yaounde Nsimalen International Airport (NSI). Carriers, including Air France (AF), Ethiopian Airlines (ET), and Brussels Airlines (SN), are maintaining routes to Cameroon.
All persons traveling to Cameroon must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before their flight. Currently, passengers who are Cameroonian nationals or residents and those with visas are allowed to enter the country. Cameroonian authorities offer visas on a case-by-case basis for essential purposes (e.g., marriage, bereavement, family illness, etc.) Travelers without test documentation, those who display symptoms, or those test positive for COVID-19 face a 14-day quarantine period at a government-approved hotel. It is currently unclear when regular air travel will resume.
Domestic Measures
Nonessential businesses are allowed to operate, and limits have been lifted on local public transportation. Schools and universities are open but must adhere to strict health guidelines. All residents are required to wear facemasks. Restrictions on groups of more than 50 people remain in place. Bars and restaurants have been allowed to reopen. The country's national carrier, Camair-Co (QC), is operating some domestic flights.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
