Nationwide protests in Chad Aug. 21 have been canceled by opposition groups.

Informational

Event

Political opposition and civil society groups operating under the umbrella of the Wakit Tama Movement have canceled plans to stage nationwide protests, Aug. 21. The purpose of the action was to condemn Chad's transitional military council (CMT) and demand the return to constitutional government. In N'Djamena, activists were scheduled to gather at the Hamama roundabout before marching to the Palace of January 15. It remains unclear if or when the event will be rescheduled. The event was canceled after Chadian authorities banned the march.

Advice

Monitor local media reports for potential changes to the event's status. As a precaution, consider avoiding areas along the previously scheduled march route in N'Djamena, Aug. 21, in the event spontaneous demonstrations materialize despite the original event's cancelation.
