Civil society groups, including the Aggrieved Public Sector Workers, have called on public sector employees to protest in Accra, Aug. 18, to demand better salary increases. Participants were due to gather at 07:00 at the Obra Spot near the Kwame Nkrumah Circle before marching towards Independence Square (also known as the Black Star Square) via the Cedi House. Independence Square is located nearby the Parliament House.

Heightened security and localized transportation disruptions are likely along the march route and in the vicinity of Independence Square. Authorities have granted permission for the demonstration. However, low-level skirmishes with security forces remain possible should participants ignore COVID-19-related gathering protocols.

Avoid all demonstrations and large concentrations of police and consider alternate routes to avoid protest routes and locations. Heed the instructions of local authorities. Depart the area at the first sign of a confrontation.
