Lebanon: Armed groups clash in Khalde near Beirut, Aug. 1

Clashes have been reported between rival armed groups south of Beirut, Aug. 1. Emerging media reports indicate that the violence is impacting the Khalde area and involves members of Hizballah and gunmen linked to 'Arab tribes'. Several people have reportedly been killed. The exact reason for the clashes is not clear.

Officials may deploy security personnel to the area should violence escalate. An increased presence of armed militia of both sides is likely in the area in the coming hours. Further clashes are likely. Violence could lead to ground travel delays in the area, including along portions of the Beirut-Saida Highway running south of Beirut.
