North Macedonia to tighten certain COVID-19 restrictions starting Aug. 18. Disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The government of North Macedonia plans to tighten certain COVID-19-related domestic restrictions. Starting Aug. 18, all persons will be required to show proof of at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, or of having recovered from the virus within the last 45 days, in order to enter any bars, restaurants, or cafes, as well as to attend any type of event including conferences, training sessions, workshops, and celebrations.

Most businesses and facilities are permitted to operate, provided they implement certain hygiene and social distancing measures. Facemasks must be worn in indoor public spaces. Organized outdoor events are allowed at 30 percent of the venue's occupancy capacity, up to a cap of 1,000 people. Restaurants, bars, and cafes are allowed to operate their outdoor areas.

International Entry Restrictions
Land borders are open and international flights are operating, albeit on reduced schedules. Starting Sept. 1, all persons arriving in North Macedonia will need to present either a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours before entry, proof of full vaccination, or proof of having recovered from COVID-19 within the previous 45 days. Macedonian citizens who do not possess any of these documents will need to quarantine for seven days upon entry; foreigners will be allowed to transit without these documents provided they leave the country within five hours after arrival. Individuals arriving by air may be subject to health screening on arrival and may have to undergo quarantine measures if displaying COVID-19 symptoms. Travelers from India are required to self-isolate for 14 days upon arrival.

Authorities could extend, ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice, depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
