Demonstrators plan to gather at Freedom Square and outside the Presidential Palace in Bratislava from 08:00 Aug. 5 to condemn COVID-19 measures. Protesters are plan to block traffic around Freedom Square. Organizers are also calling for another demonstration at Freedom Square starting at 09:00 on Aug. 6.

Heightened security and localized business and transport disruptions are likely around the protest sites. Police may use force, including tear gas, to disperse crowds if they breach security cordons, become disruptive, or attempt to block further roads. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted, they would face a significant physical threat near any violence.

Context

Activists organized similar protests in Bratislava July 23 and July 29 to denounce restrictions and other policies arising from the COVID-19 pandemic. Police used teargas to disperse protesters when they attempted to breach the parliament building July 23.
