Vietnamese authorities have extended tighter COVID-19 curbs in Hanoi through at least 06:00 Sept. 6. Residents must remain inside their homes unless leaving for essential purposes, such as purchasing food, seeking medical care, or working in essential industries. Nonessential passenger transport, outdoor gatherings of more than two people, and nonessential businesses remain banned.

Authorities are enforcing localized stricter protocols in several wards with high COVID-19 activity. The areas include Van Chuong and Van Mieu in Dong Da District, where the tighter curbs are in place through 18:00 Sept. 4. Officials ban entry and exit in the affected locations, with exceptions for medical emergencies, among others.

Officials will likely maintain heighten security protocols across Hanoi, particularly areas with stricter controls, throughout the duration of the restrictions. Screening checkpoints remain in effect across the city. Severe business and transport disruptions are likely to continue.

Authorities may require individuals traveling to Hanoi from many other areas of Vietnam to quarantine at designated facilities. Hundreds of flights have been canceled due to insufficient space at quarantine facilities.
