Comoros maintains COVID-19-related restrictions as of Sept. 9; 21:30-05:00 curfew in effect, minimal international flights operating.
Event
As of Sept. 9, COVID-19 measures are in place across Comoros.
Domestic Measures
A nightly curfew remains in force 21:30-05:00. Places of worship are open during prayer hours, however, all religious or cultural gatherings, including wedding ceremonies, are prohibited. Markets must close each day from 16:00 and all day on Sunday. Beaches are closed. Authorities continue to require residents to wear protective facemasks and strictly adhere to social distancing mandates in all public places, including vehicles, taxis, shops, and private and public establishments. Additionally, markets must close daily for cleaning. With regard to public transport, buses are restricted to carrying no more than 10 persons each, and taxis no more than four.
Domestic flights have resumed; air and maritime liaisons with Moheli remain, however, prohibited.
International Restrictions
Limited international flights and maritime services are operating. Incoming international travelers must complete a health form and present a negative result from a PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before their departure for Comoros. Health authorities perform temperature checks on all arriving passengers at airports; those exhibiting a temperature of over 38 degrees Celsius (100.4 Fahrenheit) are required to take an additional PCR test. Travelers are required to quarantine for up to five days until a negative result is produced. It remains unclear what requirements authorities may impose on persons who test positive for COVID-19 upon arrival; however, such measures will likely include quarantine at a government-designated facility until the individual tests negative for the virus. Persons leaving Comoros must also test negative for COVID-19 within 72 hours prior to their departure, regardless of their ultimate destination.
A visibly increased security presence is likely throughout Comoros. Authorities are likely to amend and implement new restrictions and measures at short notice.
