The domestic terminal at Christchurch Airport (CHC) reopened at about 10:40 Sept. 9 after having been evacuated and closed for over two hours due to the discovery of a suspicious item. Authorities, including a military explosive ordnance disposal unit, responded to the scene to investigate; airport officials have released no statement as to whether the item in question contained any explosive device or not.

The incident has affected several flights and residual delays could extend into the mid-afternoon of Sept. 9.
