Spain: Baggage-handling workers to hold intermittent strike action at Gran Canaria Airport through Sept. 19

Ground-handling staff holding intermittent strike action at Gran Canaria Arport, Spain, through at least Sept. 19; processing delays likely.

Informational

Event

Ground-handling staff employed by Groundforce are planning intermittent walkouts at Gran Canaria Airport (LPA) in the coming weeks to demand improved working conditions. Several unions have called for around 350 workers to participate in the action; the workers plan to walk out 10:00-22:00 on Wednesdays and 12:00-00:00 on Saturdays until Sept. 18. If the dispute is not resolved by then, the workers will strike 12:00-00:00 Sept. 19, before beginning an indefinite walkout from Sept. 20.

Processing delays are likely at LPA on strike days; flight disruptions and cancellations are also possible. Related disruptions could begin several hours before announced strike times and residual disruptions are likely after the strikes have concluded.

Advice

Check service schedules if planning to travel via LPA on strike days. Allow additional time for security processing. Consider taking hand luggage only if possible.
