Denmark to ease COVID-19 related international entry restrictions from Oct. 25; most domestic restrictions previously lifted.

Warning

Event

Authorities in Denmark will ease international entry restrictions imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19 from Oct. 25. From this date, the requirement for a worthy purpose to enter Denmark will be dropped for all categories of travelers. Other changes to entry restrictions will include:

  • Travelers from the EU or Schengen Area with a certificate of vaccination or recovery can enter without additional restriction; travelers without these must take a test within 24 hours of arriving.

  • Vaccinated travelers arriving from OECD countries, countries using the EU Digital COVID Certificate, or countries on the EU green list can enter without restriction.

  • Non-vaccinated travelers arriving from the EU green list must take a test within 24 hours of arrival in Denmark.

  • All other travelers will be required to take a test within 24 hours of entry and self-isolate for up to 10 days.

Existing entry restrictions remain in effect until Oct. 25. Authorities classify countries as either green, yellow, or orange in increasing order of COVID-19 transmission risk. Different travel restrictions apply depending on the color designation of the country of origin or country of residence; for a full list of countries and their risk designations, click here.

Fully vaccinated travelers from green and yellow countries or who are permanent residents of orange OECD countries can enter Denmark without restrictions. The vaccine certificate must show that the individual completed the full course of vaccination approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) between 14 days and twelve months before entry. Vaccinated travelers who are permanent residents of orange non-OECD countries must have a worthy purpose to enter Denmark, possess a negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry or a negative antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry, submit to a test on arrival, and self-isolate for 10 days on arrival. Self-isolation can be ended following a negative result of a test taken no less than four days after arrival.

Travelers with a certificate confirming recovery from COVID-19 entering from green and yellow countries can enter without restriction. Such travelers from orange countries must also have a worthy purpose to enter Denmark but are not subject to testing or quarantine requirements.

Travelers from green countries without a vaccination or recovery certificate must possess a negative result from PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry or an antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry. No further restrictions apply to unvaccinated travelers from green countries. Such travelers from yellow countries must also take a test within 24 hours of arrival. Such travelers from orange countries must have a worthy purpose for entering, possess a negative result from PCR test taken in the 72 hours before entry or an antigen test taken in the 48 hours before entry, take a test within 24 hours of arrival, and self-isolate for 10 days on arrival. Self-isolation can be ended following a negative result of a test taken no less than four days after arrival.

Domestic Restrictions
The government previously lifted all domestic restrictions; there are no limits on businesses or gatherings.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.

Advice

Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
