DRC, Rwanda: Clashes between D.R.C. and Rwanda armed forces reported in Kibumba, North Kivu Province Oct. 18

According to the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC), members of the Rwandan Defence Forces (RDF) made an incursion into D.R.C. Oct. 18. The RDF reportedly entered the locality of Kibumba, North Kivu Province, firing live ammunition and looting the area, prompting locals to flee. Clashes ensued with the FARDC, before the RDF eventually returned to Rwanda. As of Oct. 19 the situation in the area is calm.

The incident reportedly took place after the FARDC arrested two RDF members who were illegally present in the D.R.C.

Further clashes are possible should another RDF incursion occur.
