Israel: Umm al-Fahm to observe general strike Oct. 21

Authorities in the municipality of Umm al-Fahm, Haifa District, have announced plans to hold a general strike Oct. 21 to protest recent violence in Arab Israeli communities. All businesses, public entities, and schools, with the exception of private education facilities, will reportedly close in observance of the work stoppage. In addition, local leaders called for a sit-in demonstration outside the city's police station Oct. 23 to protest security forces' alleged failure to prevent the violence.
