No casualties or major damages have been reported following a magnitude-5.9 earthquake that occurred in central Japan at 22:41 JST Oct. 7. The epicenter was about 3 km (2 miles) south-southwest of Chiba. Shaking was felt in nearby Tokyo. Authorities have temporarily suspended Tokaido Shikansen rail services between Tokyo and Shizuoka. Officials had also temporarily suspended flights at Tokyo International Airport (HND) as a precaution but have since resumed operations at the airport. Authorities may close other facilities and suspend some services in the coming hours as a precaution.
