Nepal: Lingering internet disruptions likely in parts of the country as of Oct. 4

Lingering internet disruptions likely in areas of Nepal as of Oct. 4. Business disruptions possible.

Informational

Event

Internet disruptions will likely continue to affect parts of Nepal, including Kathmandu Valley, as of Oct. 4. The disruptions are occurring after the state power agency Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) cut cables of internet service providers (ISP) who allegedly failed to pay rental fees for using state utility poles. While NEA officials said Oct. 3 that they would no longer remove internet cables from the electricity poles, lingering internet disruptions are likely through early October as internet companies conduct works to fully restore services.

Business disruptions are possible for companies that use internet services for their operations.

Advice

Plan for possible internet and business disruptions. Consider alternative modes of communication, such as satellite connections, for critical business operations.
