Warning

Event

The Pakistan Peoples' Party (PPP) plans to protest at Bagh-e-Jinnah in Karachi on Oct. 17. Participants intend to denounce the central government's economic policies; the protest will also mark the 14th anniversary of a bombing that targeted a political procession in Karachi Oct. 18 that killed dozens of people. The protest will likely commence in the morning and continue through at least the early afternoon. Hundreds to a few thousand people will likely attend.

Security personnel will likely monitor the protest and may try to disperse the gathering if it is especially disruptive. Clashes between police and protesters are possible. Protesters may march along or block nearby roadways, causing localized transport disruptions.

Advice

Avoid the protest due to possible violence. If clashes break out, leave the area immediately. Do not attempt to cross roadblocks, as protesters may react violently. Follow all security personnel instructions. Allow additional travel time near the gathering.
