Sweden: Authorities to ease COVID-19-related entry restrictions for vaccinated travelers from the UK from Oct. 11 /update 26

Authorities in Sweden are planning to ease the nation's COVID-19-related international entry restrictions for vaccinated travelers from the UK. Starting Oct. 11, travelers from the UK will be allowed entry into Sweden provided they can present a UK vaccine certificate; these travelers will also be exempt from the COVID-19 test requirement. Unvaccinated travelers from the UK will remain barred from entry.

There are no entry restrictions applicable to travelers arriving from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, or Norway. Travelers arriving from other EU/EEA countries must possess either the EU Digital COVID Certificate documenting COVID-19 vaccination, a certificate indicating recovery from COVID-19, or a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Sweden.

Travel from outside the EU/EEA is generally prohibited until at least Oct. 31; exceptions are in place for EU citizens and residents and for a limited number of essential reasons. Residents of Australia, Canada, Chile, Hong Kong, Jordan, Kuwait, Macau, New Zealand, Qatar, Rwanda, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan, Ukraine, and Uruguay can enter Sweden with a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken in the 72 hours prior to arrival or an EU COVID Certificate. Fully vaccinated individuals with a vaccination certificate issued at least 14 days prior to entering Sweden by authorities in Albania, Andorra, Faroe Islands, Israel, Morocco, Monaco, North Macedonia, Panama, San Marino, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine, or Vatican City can enter from any country without presenting a negative COVID-19 test result.

Authorities have lifted most of the nation's domestic COVID-19 restrictions. Unvaccinated individuals are advised to limit social contact, and any individual with symptoms of COVID-19 is still obliged to get tested and avoid social contact while awaiting the result.

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
