Greece: Police clash with protesters on Kifisias Avenue in Athens Nov. 5

A firefighters' protest has prompted significant traffic disruptions in parts of northern Athens the afternoon of Nov. 5. Firefighters are gathered outside the Ministry of Civil Protection and Crisis Management on Kifisias Avenue to demand an increase in recruitment and improved working conditions. Police have attempted to disperse the protest using a chemical irritant fired from a water cannon. At least four protesters have been arrested and one injured.

Heightened security will likely persist in the area until after the demonstration concludes. Localized transport disruptions will likely continue in areas adjacent to the protest site and on alternate road routes. Clashes are possible, especially if security personnel forcibly attempt to disperse demonstrators.
