Greece: Activists to demonstrate in Athens Nov. 26

Anti-NATO activists to protest at Propylaea and Syntagma Square in Athens, Greece, from 11:30 Nov. 26. Heightened security likely.

Informational

Activists plan to protest in Athens at Propylaea from 11:30 and Syntagma Square from 12:00 on Nov. 26. The purpose of the demonstrations is to denounce a visit by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte as well as Greek governmental cooperation with NATO. It was not immediately clear how many people may participate in the demonstrations.

Law enforcement officers will likely deploy near Propylaea and Syntagma Square to facilitate the gatherings. Movements by demonstrators or road closures by police are likely to cause transport disruptions near the protest sites. Confrontations between demonstrators and law enforcement officers, frustrated motorists, or opposed individuals cannot be ruled out.

Avoid the demonstrations as a standard precaution. Allow additional time if traveling near the affected areas. If violence breaks out, immediately depart the area and seek shelter in a secure, nongovernmental building. Strictly heed all instructions from law enforcement officers.
