Japan: Rail service disruptions occurring on several lines in the Kanto Region Nov. 8 due to signal failure

Signal failure causing disruptions on several rail lines in Japan's Kanto Region Nov. 8. Use alternative routes.

Informational

Event

A signal failure on the Tokaido Line at Yokohama Station is causing rail service disruptions in the Kanto Region of Japan Nov. 8. Officials have delayed or partially suspended service on the Tokaido, Utsunomiya, Takasaki, Ueno-Tokyo, and Shonan-Shinjuku lines. The signal failure is not impacting Shinkansen service in the region.

It remains unclear when service will normalize, but rail disruptions could continue through the evening commuting hours as repairs and recovery operations continue. Increased demand for alternative transport is likely, especially on alternative trains between Yokohama and Tokyo.

Advice

Confirm rail schedules. Use alternative transport for time-sensitive travel, especially between Tokyo and Yokohama
