Further anti-government protests are possible nationwide through mid-November. Protesters gathered Nov. 2 in Blantyre and Nov. 5 in Lilongwe to protest the high cost of living and high rates of unemployment. Some participants have called for President Lazarus Chakwera's resignation. Security forces deployed to the scene to monitor the protests, though there were no reports of violence.
Authorities may maintain a heightened security presence over the coming days to monitor for additional protests and associated disruptions. Protests may lead to transport and business disruptions. clashes between protesters and security forces cannot be discounted.
