Nigeria: Increased security is likely along the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria expressway through the end of November

Additional security patrols and checkpoints, as well as thorough identity and car checks, are likely along the Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria expressway (A2) through at least the end of November in response to recent security incidents. Suspected armed bandits ambushed travelers on the Kaduna-Abuja section near Rijana, kidnapping an unspecified number of travelers and killing a local politician, Nov. 21. Uncorroborated reports suggest that a similar kidnapping occurred near Katari, Nov. 22.

Increased security presence and measures will likely trigger localized traffic disruptions, including congestion. Further attacks are likely.
