Nigeria: Nationwide work-to-rule action disrupts domestic air traffic through Nov. 24

As of Nov. 23, employees of the Nigerian Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) have embarked on a nationwide work-to-rule action through Nov. 24 to demand improved working conditions. Air traffic controllers announced that domestic flights scheduled to depart 06:00-09:00 on both Nov. 23 and 24 will be delayed while international air traffic will be exempted. Some airlines have reportedly canceled select flights as a result of the strike action, which was sparked by the recent death of an air traffic controller at Abuja Airport (ABV)

The strike will likely disrupt domestic air traffic and may result in delays or cancellations through Nov. 24. Passengers will likely experience longer waits for check-in, baggage claims, and clearing security. Additional strike actions are possible in the short term if management does not comply with air traffic controlers demands that must be met within two weeks.
