Peru: Foreign NGO employee found killed in Lurin, Lima Province, Nov. 6

Event

Authorities discovered a US national female employee of a non-governmental organization (NGO) dead in her home in Lurin, Lima Province, Nov. 6. The NGO that employed the deceased is involved in assisting women who have been victimized by domestic abuse.

According to investigators, the home of the victim had been ransacked, although there was no sign of forced entry. The perpetrator also appears to have stolen security cameras that monitored the house. No arrests have been made in connection to the case.

Context

The circumstances of the killing suggest that the perpetrator knew the victim, was familiar with her home, and attempted to rob it of valuables or cash. The case is therefore unlikely to represent a broad trend toward the targeting of foreign nationals in the area.
