South Sudan maintaining COVID-19-related domestic measures and travel restrictions as of Nov. 16
Event
Authorities in South Sudan are maintaining COVID-19-related restrictions as of Nov. 16.
International Travel Restrictions
Domestic and international flights are operating. Incoming international travelers arriving at Juba International Airport (JUB) require authorization from South Sudan's National Taskforce before entry. Permitted travelers must present a negative result from a COVID-19 test taken within 96 hours before arriving in South Sudan.
Travelers are exempt from quarantine if they have documentation of full COVID-19 vaccination (completed at least two weeks before traveling) or evidence of a positive PCR test result within the six months prior to travel. Individuals who present a negative PCR test certificate but who are not fully vaccinated will be required to quarantine for 10 days or be tested on day five and then exit quarantine on day seven if the PCR test is negative. Travelers must also comply with preventive measures, including wearing protective facemasks and social distancing. South Sudan's land borders are open; however, cross-border movement has been limited by restrictions implemented by neighboring countries.
Domestic Measures
A nationwide 22:00-05:00 curfew remains in place. All gatherings are limited to five people in an open space while gatherings for unvaccinated individuals must not exceed more than two persons. Additionally, all residents are required to use protective facemasks in public places.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity.
Advice
Confirm all planned travel arrangements. Plan accordingly for protracted commercial, transport, and logistics disruptions. Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Consider delaying travel if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions. Reconsider and reconfirm nonemergency health appointments.
