High winds have been causing significant flight disruptions at Istanbul Airport (IST) Nov. 30. Although winds have calmed through the early evening, large numbers of arriving flights have been heavily delayed or canceled. Departures from IST are also being delayed or canceled, mostly due to the cancellations of inbound flights. Residual flight disruptions will likely continue through the remainder of Nov. 30. Further delays are likely Dec. 1, as more high winds are forecast.
Operations at Istanbul's Sabiha Gökçen International Airport (SAW) have mostly been normal Nov. 30.
Travelers should expect long lines at customer service desks, check-in desks, and security checkpoints at IST through Dec. 1. Travelers should also expect high demand for alternative flights.
