Ghana: Nationwide transport strike called off as of Dec. 10 /update 1
Commercial transport unions suspend indefinite nationwide strike in Ghana as of Dec. 10; residual disruptions possible.
Event
As of Dec. 10, the coalition of commercial transport operators, including the Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), has suspended the indefinite nationwide strike following talks with government officials. The strike began Dec. 6 to protest the high cost of fuel; bus services have been the worst-affected. Despite the announcement, reports indicate that some drivers remain on strike.
Residual bus delays remain possible, while further related strikes remain possible over the short term if the government fails to address the issues and their promises.
Advice
As a precaution, allow additional travel time due to possible increased traffic congestion and higher demand for alternative transport services.
