Unionized container workers at the Port of Piraeus near Athens are on strike Dec. 1-2. The purpose of the work stoppage is to demand better working conditions following the death of a port worker late October.

Disruptions to port operations, including general cargo services, are almost certain during the strike unless it is averted. Demonstrations by striking workers are also possible outside of the port. Lingering shipping delays could persist after the action ends as port workers clear any backlogs.
