Increased security likely after attack near Chinese-owned company in Al-Gharraf area of Dhi Governorate in Iraq early Dec. 28.

Iraqi security forces will likely maintain a heightened security presence in Dhi Qar Governorate's Al-Garraf area following a rocket-propelled grenade and gunfire attack near a Chinese-owned oilfield services company early Dec. 28. The projectile failed to explode and there were no casualties. However, minor material damage has been reported as a result of the live ammunition that struck a trailer.
Iraqi authorities have launched an investigation and have arrested six people in connection to the attack. There have been no claims of responsibility; however, an Iraqi official for the state oil firm stated that the attack was to pressure the company into creating jobs for locals.
Al-Garraf is located 28 km (18 miles) north of Nasiriyah.
