Metlink has suspended rail services on the Kapiti line between Plimmerton and Waikanae in Wellington as of Dec. 23. The suspension was caused by a slip along the tracks between Pukerua Bay and Paekakaiki. The company has arranged for buses for services between Plimmerton and Waikanae, including Paekakariki and Waikanae stations. Metlink has also advised passengers to seek alternative transport where possible. There have been no casualties or serious damage reported. It is unclear when rail services will resume.

Disruptions to rail service along the Kapiti line will probably continue over the coming hours; lingering delays are possible after crews complete clearance and track repair works.
